Description
Probably the most famous place to watch the sunset in Florence Italy is from the Piazzale Michelangelo, on the south side of the Arno River. From here you have a panoramic view of the city from end to end and with the hills beyond. Zooming in with your camera, you get a close up view of the historic and touristic core of the city. The dome of the cathedral (Il Duomo di Firenze or Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore) dominates the skyline (right) while Giotto’s Campanile tower in white, red, and green marble stands out on the left. To the left and right of the Campanile are the octagonal tower of the Badia Fiorentina and the square tower of the Palazzo Vecchio, respectively. The red dome of the Medici Chapel sits behind the low white dome of the Baptistery on the left.
